About Himalaya Monitor

Analysis of issues and crises affecting the Himalayan region

Himalaya Monitor is a public analytical project maintained by an independent global team of experts focusing on issues and crises in the Himalayan region which spans 3,500 km and links eight nations: from Afghanistan in the west to northern Myanmar in the east (and also including Bangladesh, due to its intimate geopolitical ties to the region). Working through various media platforms with a special emphasis on social networks, we provide analysis of important data influencing stability or the growth of regional tensions, and intelligence concerning ongoing situations. We uncover the facts that are often difficult to reveal.

Our team is living proof that ordinary people, volunteers equipped with the correct motivation and technology, can create and disseminate accurate, relevant and timely content, accomplishing that which is usually only the purview of governments, privately and government-organised NGOs, academics and corporate-linked organisations.

Our Goals

  • Highlighting synthetic points of view
  • Providing independent analysis of relevant situations, events and issues
  • Breaking through information blockades and media bias
  • Promoting a human approach and peaceful understanding between conflicting parties
  • Reducing the flow of misconceptions
  • Building a community of constructive and progressive authors freely sharing views and analysis worldwide

Our Philosophy

The Himalayan region is a highly symbolic and sensitive place. It brings together tensions of tectonics, climatic extremes, ideological confrontations, and unsettled yet little-known military conflicts between three nuclear powers. At the same time, it holds extraordinary cultural and spiritual resources. In such an unstable context, in this region facts remain extremely volatile and subject to disruptive backgrounds. Himalaya Monitor’s philosophy takes into account this specificity while offering a global and accurate view of real events affecting the Himalayan region. We are open to contributions which show this understanding, and will publish them if they fit with our open and neutral process.

Himalaya Monitor greatly appreciates your input. The editors reserve the right not to publish comments containing: incitement to violence, profanity, or any broad-brush slurring of any race, ethnic group or religion. Himalaya Monitor also reserves the right to edit comments for length, clarity and grammar. All thoughtful suggestions and analyses will be gratefully considered. Commenters’ email addresses will not be displayed publicly.
